Keith Urban has blamed his recent tour for his upcoming throat surgery because he performed too "hard" during the shows.
The Australian country star announced earlier this month (Nov11) he will be undergoing the procedure, and he cleared his calendar for the rest of the year (11) so he can rest up after the operation.
The singer reveals his recent concerts are the reason for the surgery, but he has assured fans the operation is not dangerous.
Speaking on Australia's Kyle and Jackie O radio show, he says, "I just went a little hard on this tour, and got a polyp on my vocal cords, so (I'm) going to have that taken off. At some point during the tour I haemorrhaged into a vocal cord and then this little polyp formed and it's not going anywhere.
"(The operation) is less dangerous now than ever before. It's not an uncommon thing, and we've certainly been seeing a lot of it recently too, but I think the technology has improved and so the success of this kind of surgery is much greater now than before. I'm hoping I can continue that tradition!"
British singer Adele is recovering from surgery on her vocal cords last week (ends13Nov11), while Kiss frontman Paul Stanley underwent the same procedure in October (11).
