Katy Perry, the multi-million selling pop star, is teaming up with Electronic Arts to appear in its popular 'Sims' video game franchise. The singer, who is to divorce from husband Russell Brand, will feature in the game itself as well as in new global advertising and marketing campaigns, reports the UK's Guardian newspaper.
Announcing the partnership, Electronic Arts said that the "creative collaboration" would involve "Katy Perry-themed in-game content and virtual goods". The company's worldwide executive of music Steve Schnur said Perry had been a fan of the game for "several years". The singer will now begin work with EA to create accessories, clothing, hairstyles, furniture and props for The Sims that will, "truly celebrate the imagination that she brings to her performances, music videos and life". Speaking about the unlikely partnership, the singer said, "I always like to think of myself as a cartoon, and now I'm a Sim". The collaboration will begin with the launch of the Katy Perry-themed collector's editions of The Sims 3: Showtime, which hits shelves in March 2012. The game will offer users the chance to live out a "rags to riches" scenario, in which characters become singers, magicians and DJ's. Talking up the deal, Schnur said, "Today marks the start of the most integrated and exciting collaboration with any artist in the history of The Sims.No performer could better represent the humour and fun of The Sims brand".
It's been a tough few weeks for Perry, who pulled out of the recent People's Choice Awards following the announcement she is to divorce from husband Russell Brand
