Katy Perry 's absence from the People's Choice Awards didn't hinder her success, with the currently troubled pop star receiving some solace by taking home awards in five categories. Perry has recently split from husband of 14 months Russell Brand, with the couple filing for divorce on December 30th 2011 and the awards were due to be her first public appearance since the break-up. However the pop star's been keeping a low profile the last couple of weeks - with Brand only spotted infrequently around London - and she announced via Twitter that she wouldn't be attending the event.
Despite her absence though, the performer picked up Favourite Female Artist and Tour Headliner as well as Song Of The Year for 'Et' - collaborated on with Kanye West - Music Video of The Year for 'Last Friday Night' and, probably not most importantly, Best TV Guest Star for her cameo in 'How I Met Your Mother.'
The event was broadcast on CBS with the other big winners including 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2' which took home four awards for Favourite Movie, Action Movie, Book Adaptation and Ensemble Movie Cast. In another blow to the event however none of the show's stars attended.
