LATEST: Jazz singer Katie Melua was terrified singing alongside The Pogues in a televised duet of FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK, because the 21-year-old knew she could never re-create the epic vocals of late singer Kirsty Maccoll.
The Georgian-born star recorded the 1987 Christmas classic with Shane MacGowan earlier this month, and the performance will air on BBC TV chat show IT'S CHRISTMAS WITH JONATHAN ROSS on 22 December (05).
Melua says, "The Pogues are such a great band and Kirsty did such an amazing vocal so her shoes were hard to fill.
"It was daunting but we ended up having such a laugh.
"You never know what's going to happen next with Shane, but when it came to the recording he delivered."
MacColl was tragically killed five years ago in a diving accident off the Mexican island of Cozumel.
