It was Katie Holmes who made the first step in ending her marriage from Tom Cruise, filing divorce papers in New York, and it seems as though she's now ready to move out of the couple's shared apartment in New York. The Hollywood actress, 33, was seen moving some of her belongings out of the luxury property last week, reports People magazine.
Katie and daughter Suri have moved into a new three bedroom apartment in the city, which rents for between $10,000 and $12,000 a month and includes a gymnastics studio. Mother and daughter made the move while Cruise - who turns 50 on Tuesday (June 3, 2012) - remains in Iceland filming 'Oblivion'. The first picture of the star since the divorce was announced shows him seated in a helicopter in the European country. The move comes amidst rumors reported by that Holmes decided to escape the marriage after Cruise suggested Suri, 6, should be brought up as a scientologist. The New York Daily News reported that police officers were called to strange vehicles parked outside Holmes' city apartment this week, though the Church of Scientology has denied that they sent private investigators to follow the actress. Gary Soter, a lawyer for the Church, said, "The Church of Scientology is not following Katie or conducting surveillance on her in the wake of her divorce with Tom Cruise".
Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said of the divorce, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest".
