Katie Holmes has reached out to showbiz pal Sandra Bullock for advice in dealing with her divorce from Tom Cruise. The Hollywood actress filed for divorce last week, apparently "blindsiding" the Mission: Impossible star who was not aware of his wife's intentions.
Now, according to Star magazine, the former Dawson's Creek actress has contacted Bullock, who divorced husband Jesse James in 2010. A source told the publication, "They met years ago through their mutual friend, Keanu Reeves, and Sandra knows all too well about being in a bad marriage - she's been a real comfort to Katie". The magazine also reports that Katie wanted to divorce Tom last Christmas, with the insider adding, "[She] started talking very quietly to her lawyer". Over the weekend, Tmz.com claimed that Cruise and Holmes are hoping to settle their divorce out of court, apparently calling a "temporary truce" when it comes to legal proceedings. People magazine have since reported that if the couple can agree on properties, child support and visitation rights, they will not have to appear in court. A source added that Cruise, "doesn't want his family dragged through the mud", adding, "They love their daughter". Nevertheless, Katie is reportedly "dead-set" on retaining full custody of daughter Suri, with an insider telling US Weekly, "Katie is not going to compromise on certain issues, all regarding Suri".
It was also reported this week that Katie Holmes is going back to work for the first time since she announced her split from Cruise. The actress' career has faltered in recent years, though she has reportedly penned a new movie, 'Molly', about the life of a single mother and her daughter. The film, which she also co-produces, will begin filming in New York City this month.
