Kate Mara, the American actress best known for appearing in the ACADEMY AWARD winning movie 'Brokeback Mountain' and in the drama series '24', is in the running to land the female lead role in Christopher Nolan's forthcoming Batman movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 27-year-old is on a shortlist of five actresses to play the role that is being described as the current biggest female part in Hollywood.
The highly anticipated new movie, entitled 'Batman The Dark Knight Rises', will once again star Christian Bale as the caped crusader, while Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine will all reprise their roles from 2008's 'The Dark Knight'. Nolan is reportedly keen to cast two female leads and a shortlist has been narrowed down to include Mara alongside either Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel or Charlotte Riley. The likes of Katie Holmes, Maggie Gyllenhaal and RACHEL DAWES have already ruled themselves out of the running. Although Knightley is the favourite to land one of the two parts, Mara has impressed with her recent performances in '127 Hours' and 'Iron Man 2'.
The movie is scheduled to begin filming later this year and is expected to hit cinemas on 20th July 2012.
