Karl Lagerfeld is enjoying working with plastic for the first time.
The legendary Chanel designer is collaborating with Melissa - who are known for their colourful plastic jelly shoes - over the next four seasons and has enjoyed the venture because it is so unfamiliar.
He said: ''The fact that I will discover something I know little about, that is the most exciting part of this cobranding.
''It's not the first time I've done shoes. I design footwear the same way I design clothes - with a feeling I express in my design.
''I had never worked with plastic in this way before, it's not the classic technique. I am used to working with more traditional techniques for Fendi, Chanel and Lagerfeld shoes.''
Karl was speaking as he unveiled a preview of his first four-piece collection with Melissa, who have previously collaborated with Dame Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier and model Alessandra Ambrosio.
The venture is one of many keeping Karl busy this month, in addition to the Fendi show in Milan and Chanel show in Paris, he is also launching a new high-tech boutique in the French capital, through which he'll showcase clothing, accessories and gadgets, including his Shu Uemura make-up line and watch collaboration with Fossil.
