Rapper Kanye West has inspired Franz Ferdinand to ditch their rock image to and make hip-hop records instead.

The TAKE ME OUT band's frontman Alex Kapranos met West at last month's (NOV04) MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS, and was so impressed by the THROUGH THE WIRE hunk's motivational speech about the rise of urban music, he's decided to make a rap album.

Kapranos explains, "We've been talking a lot about production and we really feel that most of the cutting edge stuff is being done in the world of hip-hop and R+B right now.

"Kanye West's a good example. We met him at the MTV Europe Awards and we were talking for quite a while. I think that's maybe where we'll look for inspiration on the next record."
