English composer SIR HARRISON BIRTWISTLE launched a scathing attack against British pop at yesterday's (25MAY06) Ivor Novello Awards in London. Taking to the stage to accept an award for his contribution to modern British composing, he directed the abuse at his fellow Ivor Novello winners Kaiser Chiefs, KT Tunstall and James Blunt. The angry 71-year-old raged, "Why is your music so effing (f**king) loud? "You must all be brain dead. Maybe you are. I didn't know so many cliches existed until the last half-hour".
