The filmmaker's digital series is a joint project between NBCUniversal, studio bosses at MAChinima and Lin's YouTube channel YOMYOMF.

Knight Rider premiered in 1982 and featured David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a crime fighter with a cool, high-tech car, named KITT. The series ran for four seasons.

Lin's new show will premiere next year (17), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Announcing the news on Tuesday, MAChinima CEO Chad Gutstein says, "Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact. Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans."

The director is a very busy man - he's also developing a Space Jam sequel and he'll be behind the camera for another car-themed action project, Hot Wheels.
