THE DARKNESS singer Justin Hawkins has emerged as the number one choice to front rock legends Queen, when the surviving members reunite for a charity gig to celebrate their 30th anniversary.

Catsuit-clad Justin - who will take over vocal duties from late star FREDDIE MERCURY - reportedly met with Queen's lead guitarist Brian May last Saturday (27MAR04) at a private member's club in London's Strand to negotiate a deal.

An insider says, "The plan is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Queen's first chart hit and to raise as much for charity as they can.

"No one will ever replace Freddie, but Justin will bring a new element."

A source at the private members club overheard Brian telling Justin, "You've got the voice, so it makes sense."

Queen want to donate proceeds from the proposed summer (04) concert to AIDS victim Mercury's favourite charities the TERRENCE HIGGINS TRUST and CHILDREN IN NEED.
