The controversial Australian journalist, who was portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in 2013 movie The Fifth Estate, sought asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012 in a bid to avoid arrest and extradition to Sweden on rape and sexual assault allegations.

Ecuador President Rafael Correa has announced the 44 year old will finally face questioning from Swedish authorities without leaving the embassy.

Swedish prosecutors will submit questions to Ecuadorian officials, who will quiz Assange in the next few days, according Correa.

He has always denied the allegations of sexual assault, which dated back to 2010.
