Jude Law has missed out on the chance to play Ian Curtis in the upcoming JOY DIVISION biopic, after being beaten to the role by unknown actor Sam Riley. Riley, who is also a member of up-and-coming British rock band 10,000 THINGS, will portray the troubled singer in CONTROL. He originally had his eye on playing drummer STEPHEN MORRIS, but director Anton Corbijn had other ideas. He says, "I told them I could play drums, I figured I could learn the basics. "Then they called me back, but to read for Ian, which was a bit of a surprise. "They rang me up on my birthday and told me I'd got the part. I thought they were having me on."
