Jude Law is to escape prosecution for allegedly assaulting a paparazzi photographer.

The Closer star was arrested last month after an incident outside his London home and was released on bail after being questioned by Police.

However, the 34-year-old has today confirmed that he has been cleared of the reported assault after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided not to pursue charges.

He told People.com: "The Police have told me that they and the CPS have examined the photographer's allegation extremely carefully and made the decision that there is no further action to be taken."

Law added: "Of course I am delighted to be vindicated."

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan police confirmed: "No further action will be taken and the 34-year-old man will not be required to return on bail."

The actor, a father of three, was married to the actress Sadie Frost for six years before their divorce in 2003.

Nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in The Talented Mr Ripley and a best actor nominee for 2004's Cold Mountain, Law will next appear alongside Michael Caine in Sleuth.

The Kenneth Branagh-directed film is based on a Harold Pinter screenplay and hits UK screens on November 23rd.
