Journey guitarist Neal Schon and his fiancee Michaele Salahi have received an apology from the editors of Britain's Daily Mail newspaper for reprinting "false and vicious statements" the rocker's former mother-in-law made about the couple in a blog post.

The apology has been posted on the homepage of the publication's website.

It reads: "On 22 February we published an article about Journey guitarist Neal Schon and his fiancee Michaele Salahi. We accept that these allegations are untrue and apologise to Mr. Schon, Ms. Salahi and the family for any distress caused. We have agreed to pay Mr. Schon and Michaele damages and legal costs."

Schon's publicist reveals the Mail's editors were wrong to run the story that had been posted online by Judy Kozan, hours after the rock star won a court battle with his ex-wife Amber over monthly support payments.

A Minnesota judge ruled that Schon had met all of his child support obligations and noted he had paid his ex-wife more than $1.3 million (£812,500) since their divorce in 2007.

Schon has since filed a lawsuit against Judy Kozan in an attempt to prevent her from harassing him.
