American heart-throb Joshua Jackson is so terrified about making his London stage debut this week (27JAN05), he threatened to quit the production.

The former DAWSON'S CREEK star, 26, is starring opposite Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart in the West End production of David Mamet's play A LIFE IN THE THEATRE at the British capital's Apollo Theatre.

However, Jackson says starring opposite established thespian Stewart is making him doubt his acting abilities.

He explains, "It's such a new thing for me.

"I mean, 10 minutes before we start, I may say, 'Look, Patrick, dude. I can't do this. This is ridiculous. I don't know what I was thinking. It was a big mistake. I apologise, I'm out of here.'

"You can't rough it in Mamet like you can with television. The script is not a guideline, it is not a blueprint, it is the bible."
