Actor Josh Hartnett remained in hospital last night after he was rushed into a Los Angeles clinic with gastrointestinal problems early yesterday morning.

The Pearl Harbour star, who spent several months last year in the stage adaptation of Rain Main at London's Apollo Theatre, was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Centre with stomach pains on Monday morning.

His publicist Susan Patricola said the problem was a recurrence of an illness which began in London last year.

She added that after seeing a consultant, 30-year-old Hartnett was still under observation but was resting comfortably.

Hartnett, best known for roles in films including Black Hawk Down and 30 Days of Night, is currently acting with Sir Ben Kingsley in an adaptation of Mexican drug cartel novel, Queen of the South.
