The Transformers star has teamed up with the two-year-old tot, his only child with pop star wife Fergie, for the photoshoot after being named the face of North Dakota Tourism's 2016 advertising drive.

Josh, who grew up in the state, is shown sitting on a hill during a walk with little Axl, and the actor admits he loves taking his family home for traditional vacations in the countryside.

"We usually go for one of the holidays, Easter or Thanksgiving, and then go back for something else, usually in the summer," he explains. "Usually I'll take my son and wife to Lake Metigoshe, because my sister has a cabin there, so everybody goes to visit... I want to make sure he (Axl) knows his cousins, because a lot of them live there, and he loves them. He loves going to hang out with them, so it's important I keep doing that, because I want him to have that root."

The Hollywood hunk admits he feels proud to have been asked to promote his home state, and insists more tourists should experience all the region has to offer.

"I was truly honoured to have been approached with the opportunity to showcase North Dakota as a welcoming, friendly destination in the state's new advertising campaign," he adds. "I hope this collaboration will inspire more visitors to experience what I've known for years - that visiting North Dakota is nothing short of legendary."

The state's Governor Jack Dalrymple adds, "Because he grew up here, Josh knows firsthand all of the legendary experiences we have to offer, and that's why he continues to come home to enjoy North Dakota."

Josh and Fergie married in 2009, and they welcomed Axl in August, 2013.
