CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION star Jorja Fox is backing a campaign to ban illegal dog fighting in America.
The animal-loving actress has thrown her weight behind a new drive by the Humane Society of the United States, which aims to end the outlawed bloodsport.
Fox, who was once named PETA's Vegetarian of the Year, hosted the organisation's annual fundraising gala in Chicago, Illinois this weekend (27-28Feb10) to raise money for the End Dogfighting in Chicago campaign.
She tells People.com, "The more you know (about dog fighting), the less you want to know. It's terrifying. When I heard about this project last spring, I called the Humane Society and said if they wanted help, to call on me. It's a brilliant programme.
"Pit bulls are smart and healthy - they can do so much. So the organisation works to get kids showing that off, and getting excited about that, instead of falling into the dark side. Dogs like Malteses and Jack Russell terriers end up getting stolen in communities where kids are dog fighting, used as training material for the pit bulls. It's awful.
"If you're not treating your animal well, you'll never know what a great force they can be in your life. They're healers, lovers, friends. They make life fun."
