On Tuesday (24Mar15), a representative for the actor revealed the actor "recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction", and just a day after the announcement, Hamm broke his silence.

He told Australia's TV Week, "Life throws a lot at you sometimes, and you have to deal with it as much as you can. I've been very fortunate that throughout the most recent 24-hour period, I've had a lot of family and friends support me."

Hamm is in the middle of promoting the final season of the Emmy-winning series, in which he plays powerful ad executive Don Draper, who ironically has his own problems with alcoholism.

When asked if there's any correlation between his onscreen persona and his real-life struggles, Hamm replied, "Obviously there can be a lot of discussion about how much of this is related to that and honestly I don’t have much to say about that either. I've said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavour, certainly not as difficult as... being a baby heart surgeon, but, it does present its own challenges and so does life.

"I understand it constitutes news these days, but it's between me and my family and not something for public consumption."

Hamm reportedly completed his 30-day rehab treatment at the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut last month (Feb15).
