Hollywood actor Johnny Depp will no longer be required to testify at a murder trial after lawyers agreed he was not in a relationship with the accused.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was served with legal papers relating to the case while attending a film premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month (Apr14).

Nancy Lekon stands accused of killing a pedestrian with her car in 2009, and she has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Lekon claims to have been in a relationship with Depp, and her lawyer had hoped the actor would reinforce her insanity plea with his testimony.

However, Depp is no longer required to give evidence after prosecution and defence lawyers agreed he has no connection to Lekon or any involvement in the case, according to Tmz.com.
