Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie like to be "locked away" at their homes.

The pair had never met before appearing together in 'The Tourist', despite having homes in southern France close to one another.

The actress insists there is nothing unusual about their lack of social interaction because neither of them really enjoys social situations.

She said: "We're both not that social. I don't think either One Of Us goes out of our house, especially in France. We're both locked away."

Despite Johnny never having met Angelina - who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt - he had wanted to work with her for a long time, even though he had no idea of what she would be like.

He told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "So much has been written about Angie and Brad. They're sort of the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton of our era. I knew she was a Big Star, but I didn't know what to expect."

The 47-year-old actor - who has two children, Lily-Rose, 11, and Jack, eight, with long-term girlfriend Vanessa Paradis - was nervous about meeting Angelina but they quickly bonded after discussing family life.

Asked if he was nervous about their first meeting, Johnny said: "Well, there is sort of that. Because on one level it's like, 'Here we go, kid. We're about to get into The Ring together.'

"We sat there and babbled about our kids, and it was a huge relief. I was pleasantly surprised that she has an incredibly perverse sense of humour. She's a really cool broad."
