Late TV host Johnny Carson's TONIGHT SHOW microphone is up for auction.
Carson used the microphone on the popular talk show between 1962 and 1992, and the item is expected to be a popular lot following the host's death in January (23JAN05).
Carson's trusty prop, being sold off by HERITAGE GALLERIES in Texas, USA, has been described as an "important piece of Americana" and hopes are high for the starting price.
Auctions director DOUG NORWINE says, "I think the thing should start around $20,000 (GBP10,400), but it could hit six figures."
The director describes the lot as "a complete wild card".
He continues, "There are so many people that got their start on The Tonight Show."
The show's chief sound operator STAN SWEENEY snapped up the relic when crew members were invited to "take a memento or two" from the set.
Norwine says, "I think he had it in his house for years and probably after Carson's passing thought this would be a good time to make it available to collectors and fans."17/03/2005 17:26
