TOM CRUISE served up a sweet treat at pal John Travolta's surprise 50th birthday party in Los Cabos, Mexico, at the weekend (7/8FEB04) - a peanut butter and chocolate aeroplane cake.

Cruise was one of 280 pals at the star-studded party organised by Travolta's wife Kelly Preston and best friend Oprah Winfrey, who turned 50 last month (JAN04).

Barbra Streisand dished up another treat when she sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her movie star friend, and Carly Simon changed the lyrics to her hit YOU'RE SO VAIN to YOU FLY PLANES for the actor.

There were other musical tributes from Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett and Robin Gibb, who performed Travolta's favourite song HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE.

An emotional Travolta says, "It was my wish to have everyone I love in one room together."

Other famous friends at the bash included Robin Williams, Meg Ryan, Sylvester Stallone and Dan Aykroyd. Travolta was visibly stunned when he arrived at the resort for what he thought was a golf tournament to see one famous face after another.

His wife had a great night after lying to her husband about the surprise for months. She says, "My highlight was watching Oprah doing tequila shots. It was great and my husband looks really good."
