The Beatles star's 1966 Song of the Year trophy has an opening bid of $40,000 (£28,000) at the Gotta Have Rock and Roll auction, but Grammy bosses have alerted the sellers they have no right to put it on the block.

The NARAS chiefs insist rules forbid the sale of Grammys, which doesn't explain how auctioneers at Christie's managed to get rid of the item during a rock 'n' roll memorabilia sale in 2004.
