John Cusack threatened to sack his agent if they failed to win him the lead role in 1999 film Being John Malkovich. Cusack was desperate to test his talents in the offbeat film - and was even more sure it was the right decision when Malkovich himself endorsed the script. He says, "I went to the William Morris agency and said, 'Give me the script that you think is un-producable. The craziest wildest free-est (sic) thing. That no one will show anyone. "I tracked it for four years before they got the money. "John Malkovich called me and said, 'It's good and it's so f**king mean. It's mean about me - but I am an asshole. He said, 'We've got to do this.'"
