John Cleese has given his support to a campaign demanding a statue of his world famous character BASIL FAWLTY to be erected in Torquay, England, where the cult show FAWLTY TOWERS was set. The former Monty Python funnyman only made 12 episodes of the hit 1970s British sitcom about a hapless hotelier, but his creation has gone down in comic folklore around the globe, prompting a local campaign calling for a GBP20,000 ($38,000) statue to be created in his honour. The 67-year-old says, "I think it sounds like a splendid idea. (I would favour) a conventional, realistic kind of statue."
