Director Rich Moore, screenwriter Phil Johnston and actor John C. Reilly, who voiced the titular character, made the announcement via Facebook Live on Thursday (30Jun16), revealing they are re-teaming for the follow-up, which is slated for release in March, 2018.

In the 2012 film, video game villain Ralph sets his sights on becoming a hero, and his journey brings havoc to the arcade where he lives. For the sequel, Ralph is set to expand his rage to the Internet.

"This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the web, as only he can do," Johnston said during the announcement. "Characters we loved in the first film are back, and we are ecstatic to be working with them - and the actors who voice them - once again."

Wreck It Ralph grossed over $471 million (£354 million) at the global box office and was nominated for best animated feature at the Oscars and the Golden Globes.

Sarah Silverman will also be back to voice her role of Vanellope von Schweetz.

The first instalment also featured Jane Lynch, Mindy Kaling, Ed O'Neill, Dennis Haysbert, and Jack MCBrayer, among others, but it is unclear whose voices will be returning for the sequel.
