The Joey + Rory singer is preparing for her final days as she battles terminal cancer in a hospice in Indiana, but she was overcome with tears of joy on Monday, when the 2016 Grammy shortlist was announced - and she and her bandmate husband, Rory Feek, scored a nod for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

"(I) woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of 'If I Needed You' was nominated for a Grammy," Rory writes on Facebook. "As her excitement and tears flowed into mine, she said, 'How can that be?'"

Rory goes on to reveal the nomination came as a complete surprise, as their track "received no radio airplay... no press... no critical acclaim."

He also shared footage from the incredibly personal music video for If I Needed You, which documents the birth of the couple's daughter, Indiana, who was born with Down syndrome in 2014.

"God is so good," he adds. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

The 2016 Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on 15 February (16).

The happy news emerges weeks after Joey revealed plans to release a new album on Valentine's Day (14Feb16).

She and her husband recorded new tracks for what will be their final Joey & Rory album, titled Hymns That Are Important to Us, over the summer (15), before she became too ill to work.

"(This is) the one she's always wanted to make - filled with the hymns she grew up with," Rory wrote on his blog last month (Nov15). "We recorded it just after she was recovering from her first big surgery in Chicago. And then she did her vocals where she could... in hotel rooms, our house, wherever and whenever she felt up to singing."

A portion of the album sales will benefit the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation.

Joey, 40, is hoping to survive the holidays and witness the second birthday of the couple's daughter in February (16).
