Late Joey Feek's husband Rory is releasing a documentary detailing the final years of the country star's life.
The Joey + Rory singer lost her battle with cancer at the age of 40 in March (16), and on Wednesday (15Jun16), Rory marked his first wedding anniversary without Joey by his side.
In a blog post, he recalled the night he met Joey for the first time in a small cafe in Mr. Pleasant, Tennessee. The location was also where they staged their wedding reception, and he spent what would have been their 14th anniversary at the venue with their two-year-old daughter, Indiana.
Rory revealed he has teamed up with a filmmaker friend to compile video footage he has taken over the past two years to create a documentary, titled To Joey, With Love.
Rory and his pal Ben have spent the past couple of months editing clips and he unveiled the first trailer in his blog post, admitting that seeing the footage all together made him extremely emotional, writing, "I have not cried beside Joey’s grave. I have talked and prayed and sat still beside her cross for hours, but not really cried. Not until yesterday when I shared this trailer with her, or at least tried to. For our anniversary. And I wept like a baby."
To Joey, With Love, is slated to be screened in cinemas across the U.S. for one night only on 20 September (16), just days after what would have been the singer's 41st birthday.
"My wife will get the chance to live again," he wrote. "On a movie screen, her heart will start beating and her story will come to life once more and it will be my gift to her."
