Joey McIntyre is set to star in a sitcom inspired by his life as a pop star-turned-actor.
Bosses at America's Pop network have given a series order to The Joey MAC Project, a scripted programme about the New Kids On The Block star.
Joey will play an exaggerated version of himself as he attempts to become a serious actor after growing up in the spotlight in one of the world's most beloved boy bands. However, instead of landing major acting roles, the father-of-three is offered the gig of hosting a late-night talk show.
The sitcom also marks the first time he'll be acting alongside his New Kids bandmate Donnie Wahlberg, who will play Joey's agent.
Joey and Donnie are also executive producing the project, alongside the latter's wife, Jenny MCCarthy.
The two made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday (31Jul16), with Joey joking, "I lucked out. What are the chances of me being cast as a character named Joey McIntyre?"
Donnie added, "I've worked with Joey since we were kids, but seeing all of his many talents come together in this show - I've never been more excited."
The Pop network also airs the New Kids' reality TV series Rock the Boat, which gives viewers an inside look at their annual fan cruise.
Joey and Donnie are no strangers to acting - Joey has been on Broadway and appeared in Melissa MCCarthy's The Heat, while Donnie is gearing up for the seventh season of police drama Blue Bloods.
