Spanish movie FERPECT CRIME (EL CRIMEN FERPECTO) won the top prize the French COGNAC THRILLER FILM FESTIVAL on Sunday (10APR05), beating British gangster blockbuster Layer Cake.

GOYA-nominated Spanish actress MONICA CERVERA accepted the award on director ALEX DE LA IGLESIA's behalf.

Hollywood filmmaker Joel Schumacher headed the panel at the illustrious French festival, which also honoured Belgian action actor JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME.

Seven movies were up for the prize of best thriller at the FESTIVAL DU FILM POLICIER - one of more than 170 film festivals held in France each year.

Other films featured at the event included British drama DEAD MAN'S SHOES, US comedy Miss Congeniality 2 starring Sandra Bullock and Clint Eastwood's 2003 movie Mystic River.
