The 87-year-old was visiting his doctor for a routine check-up last week when he started to feel ill. Joe was admitted to a local Los Angeles medical centre, but as news of his hospitalisation spread, so did rumours the Jackson family patriarch had passed away.

On Thursday (19May16), Joe took to his website to shoot down the speculation of his passing with a post titled "I Am 100% Alive".

Along with a photo of him smiling at a beachside resort, Joe wrote, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Please ignore all the stupid false rumors from people who seem to find humor in such topics."

Despite the update, he remains in hospital and has yet to reveal his medical condition.

Over the past few days, his family members have been photographed entering and exiting the medical centre where Joe is recuperating. Among those spotted: his wife Katherine, daughter Latoya Jackson and 18-year-old Paris Jackson, Michael's daughter.

Shortly after Joe was admitted to hospital, his son Jermaine told TMZ his father was already bouncing back from the minor health setback.

"My father's doing much better," he said. "We were all worried, but he's doing much better. He's much healthier and we're very happy about that... He was doing a normal check-up, but he... got weak and they admitted him (to hospital). He was not doing well...

The singer continued, "He's just tired, he's 87, we're trying to hold on to him as long as we can. My father's very strong, he's up there (in his hospital bed) telling jokes... but he's doing fine."
