Rapper Joe Budden was chastised by a New York judge on Wednesday (03Dec14) after arriving almost two hours late for a hearing relating to the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend.

The Pump It Up hitmaker, who lives in New Jersey, stands accused of stealing his former lover's cell phone and twisting her arm as he reportedly forced her into his car during an altercation outside a Manhattan nightclub in August (14).

He turned himself in to police days after he became a wanted man and was summoned to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court this week.

However, Budden's tardiness infuriated Judge Denise Dominguez on Wednesday, when his lawyer blamed heavy traffic for his client's late appearance.

Dismissing the excuse, the judge said, "There are people that live in New Jersey that make it here on time, sir."

When Budden finally arrived, the court official gave him a stern talking to, before setting the next hearing for 4 March (15).

The hip-hop star, who has denied the claims, has yet to be indicted for the charges, according to the New York Post.
