An investigation has reportedly been launched into allegations Joan Rivers' medical file was illegally accessed by health workers and subsequently leaked.

The probe has been initiated by officials at the New York City Fire Department into claims Rivers' medical records were accessed by staff and shared following her cardiac arrest at a throat clinic and subsequent death last year (14), reports the New York Daily News.

The news comes after it emerged the clinic where Rivers' heart stopped during a routine procedure will not lose its licence.

The Yorkville Endoscopy clinic in the Big Apple was hit with a number of violations following an inspection by a U.S. medical authority in the days after Rivers' death, and it had been expected to lose its federal accreditation this week (beg05Jan15).

However, the firm has been given a reprieve and its fate will be decided by a final inspection.
