British author J.K. Rowling is still searching for her late mother's stolen jewellery, more than 20 years after it disappeared.

The best-selling writer behind the Harry Potter books was left devastated after a collection of gems she inherited from her mum, Anne, was stolen from her home just months she died in 1990.

In an article for Harper's Bazaar magazine, Rowling states the thieves broke into her apartment in Manchester, England and smashed her childhood jewellery box to take the goods, and the writer insists she is still on the look out for the "modest collection" in shops.

Rowling's mother died in 1990 at the age of 45 after a battle with multiple sclerosis.
