Editors at U.K. newspaper The Sun report that Rowling fell in love with the charm of the 156-foot liner, which Depp spent more than $8 million (£5 million) refurbishing. He previously named the yacht Vajoliroja after his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children Lily-Rose and Jack.
However, he split from the mother of his children in 2012 and he later he renamed the yacht Amphitrite when he married new wife Amber Heard.
Depp went on to sell the vessel to an American shipping magnate for an undisclosed price.
Editors at The Sun report that Depp's boat was made to feel like a pirate ship, and featured red velvet sofas, rustic decoration and even a pirate's head sculpture.
The yacht caters for watersports, and comes complete with a home cinema, satellite TV, and video games. It can also house up to 10 people and nine crew members, and charters for $115,200 (£72,000) a week.
