The 91 year old went public with his health crisis in August (15), shortly after undergoing surgery to remove a small mass in his liver.

Carter subsequently revealed the disease had spread to his brain, but this weekend (06Dec15), the ex-leader shared his good fortune with students at a Sunday School class at Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia.

"He said he got a scan this week and the cancer was gone," church goer and close friend Jill Stuckey told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "The church, everybody here, just erupted in applause."

Carter has since confirmed the news in a statement which reads: "My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones. I will continue to receive regular three-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab."
