A much-hyped Jimi Hendrix biopic looks set to be abandoned after London's High Court ruled its American film-makers don't have the rights to the guitarist's music or likeness. Wednesday's (03MAY06) ruling told Dragonslayer Films it will now have to get the go-ahead for any such project from Experience Hendrix, the company run by the legendary musician's daughter JANIE. Dragonslayer Films' John Hillman had claimed he had secured the rights to Hendrix's music, live footage and likeness, reports Variety. Janie Hendrix says in a statement: "We will certainly rely on this judgement in protecting our rights against any other parties who make unauthorised use of Hendrix songs and recordings under the guise of the Hillman claim." Earlier this week (02MAY06), director Quentin Tarantino was forced to rubbish reports linking him to the proposed Hendrix biopic.
