Veteran country singer Jim Ed Brown is winning his cancer battle, revealing the disease is in remission.

The Grand Ole Opry member, 80, announced he had been diagnosed with lung cancer in September (14), and told fans he would be battling the disease with chemotherapy and radiation.

The treatment appears to have worked, and Brown has announced he is cancer free.

He released a statement which reads: "I am in remission. There are not enough thanks for the prayers, well wishes, and support I've received during the toughest time of my life. I am so grateful."

Brown is planning to celebrate the good news by returning to his home on the Opry stage in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend (30-31Jan15).
