TV host Jeremy Clarkson has sparked thousands of complaints after declaring Britain's striking workers should be "shot" during a Bbc broadcast on Wednesday (30Nov11).
The outspoken Top Gear star appeared on topical series The One Show and discussed the widespread public sector strikes which took place across the U.K. on Wednesday.
Clarkson ranted, "I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they've got these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?"
The remark prompted viewers to flood with angry reactions, and the Bbc had received nearly 5,000 complaints by Thursday (01Dec11).
Clarkson himself has yet to say sorry but a spokesperson for the Bbc insists, "The One Show apologised at the end of the show to viewers who may have been offended by Jeremy Clarkson's comments."
An estimated 1.3 million union workers participated in the mass industrial action over the government's controversial pension reform plans.
