Jennifer Lopez will provide a voice role in DreamWorks Animations' 'Home'.

The 'Parker' actress and 'Father of the Bride' actor Steve Martin have joined the new animated feature, which will also star singer Rihanna and 'The Big Bang Theory' leading man Jim Parsons, according to TheWrap.

The film is based on a 2007 children's book, 'The True Meaning of Smekday', by Adam Rex, and centres on an overly enthusiastic alien race called the Boov, who are determined to take over Earth and relocate the human race to their planet - convinced they're helping them.

Martin will voice the alien race's leader Captain Smek, while Lopez will voice the mother of Rihanna's character, a feisty teenage girl who becomes unlikely pals with an exiled Boov (Parsons).

The movie - which was originally titled 'Happy Smekday!' - has been in the works for nearly five years as DreamWorks originally optioned rights to Rex's book in 2008. Parsons, who is best known for his Emmy Award-winning role as nerdy Sheldon Cooper, and 'Diamonds' singer Rihanna were cast in the lead roles in June 2012.

'Over the Hedge' and 'Antz' director Tim Johnson will helm the film, which will be produced by Chris Jenkins and Suzanne Buirgy.

'Home' is due for release in November 2014.
