Jena Malone has officially joined the cast of 'The Hunger Games' tribute Catching Fire. The actress - who recently appeared in The History Channel's Hayfields and MCCoys - will play the role of snide tribute Johanna Mason.
Malone's character is a former winner of the brutal 'Hunger Games' from District 7, who is psychologically damaged from her experiences. Johanna is a key role in the sequel, and Jena joins Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson who reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The movie franchise follows youngsters living in a dystopian society who are selected at random to compete in 'The Hunger Games' - a bloody battle in which contestants are forced to fight to the death. 'Catching Fire' opens on November 22, 2012, with Francis Lawrence attached as director and Nina Jacobson and John Kilik as producers. Earlier this month, Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman signed on to play the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, head game-maker of the Hunger Games.
Jena Malone is perhaps best known for her role in Sean Penn's 'Into the Wild', though has also appeared in 'Atonement' and 'Sucker Punch' in 2011. Next year is shaping up to be a big one for the actress, who will also star opposite Sir Ben Kingsley in the drama 'A Doll's House' about a woman married to an overbearing husband.
