Jay-Z and Rick James are set to receive honours from the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS, AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS (ASCAP) in a ceremony next month (JUN04).

The pair will be presented with their awards at the 17TH ANNUAL ASCAP RHYTHM + SOUL HERITAGE AWARDS, an invitation-only dinner which will take place 28 June at the California's Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The event honours the top R+B and hip-hop songwriters, and publishers who belong to the performing rights organisation, which turns 90-years-old this year (04).

The Golden Note Award is one of the most prestigious honours which a member of ASCAP can receive. Past songwriters who have received the accolade include Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, SEAN 'P DIDDY' COMBS, Garth Brooks, TOM PETTY and ELTON JOHN.

The event will also honour ASCAP's Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year, Top Rap Song of the Year and will feature performances by several award-winning songwriters and artists.
