Celebrities including Jay-Z and Beyonce have had private details of their finances posted online.

The musical couple - along with other famous names - have been targeted by internet hackers, who have shared information about their money details on a website originating in Russia.

Police in Los Angeles are investigating the situation, which also resulted in FBI Director Robert Mueller and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck's social security numbers, personal addresses and credit reports being uploaded for the public to view.

Police officer Andrew Smith said: ''People get mad at us, go on the Internet and try to find information about us, and post it all on one site.

''The best word I can use to describe it is creepy.''

Other stars affected by the criminals include Mel Gibson, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. US Vice-president Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are also involved in the incident.

Authorities are to follow-up the case and checking information online about any celebrity living in the area.

The website also includes several pages dedicated to unflattering pictures of the victims.
