Jason Sudeikis is leaving 'Saturday Night Live'.

The 37-year-old actor, who previously planned to leave the late-night comedy show in 2012 before being convinced to stay on by producer Lorne Michaels, has decided to step down after eight seasons and will not be returning for the 39th series.

On the 'Late Show With David Letterman' in New York City on Wednesday (24.07.13), he said: ''A person can go as long as they want. Lorne has been kicking butt at it for 33 of the 38 years. I'm definitely done; I'm not coming back in the fall.''

Jason, who was a sketch writer for the show for two years before he landed a regular slot on the programme, is already anticipating his next move and is contemplating movies.

He added: ''You start to get that itch probably in August where all these sketch ideas come up.

''And I'll be like, 'Well can I make these sketch ideas last 90 minutes and turn it into a movie?' Probably not.''

His colleague Bill Hader announced he was quitting at the end of the series and long-time cast member Fred Armisen also officially confirmed his departure from the show earlier this month.
