Funnyman Jason Segel is one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a published author after signing a deal for his children's book series.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star revealed earlier this month (Apr13) he was turning a self-penned film script into books, and now he has inked a deal with publishing giants Random House.

Three-book series Nightmares! is based on scripts written by Segel before he found fame and follows a group of courageous friends who try to save their neighbourhood from mysterious creatures.

In a statement, Segel says, "Ultimately, it's a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try."

The first installment in Segel's trilogy is to be published next year (14).
