Jared Harris has been cast in 'The Quiet Ones'.

The 50-year-old actor will play lead character Doctor Joseph Coupland in the horror/thriller movie to be directed by 'Quarantine 2' helmer John Pogue, who believes the 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' star has the ''perfect blend of charisma, intelligence and wit'' to pull off the role.

He said: ''Jared Harris is an extraordinarily talented actor and I'm thrilled that he will be playing the key role of Professor Joseph Coupland, who led his most ambitious students in a notorious 1974 experiment to create a poltergeist.

''Jared has the perfect blend of charisma, intelligence and wit that the part of Professor Coupland demands, and I'm excited to watch him bring the role to life.''

The movie comes from British production banner Hammer Films - which was recently responsible for horror movie 'The Woman in Black' - and will see James Gay-Rees produce in association with the Los Angeles-based organisation The Traveling Pictures Show Company.

The motion picture - which will be written by Tom DeVille - is due to start filming in the UK in June this year and Simon Oakes, president and CEO of Hammer, revealed fans can expect a ''chilling and sinister picture''.

He explained: '''The Quiet Ones' is set to be an incredibly chilling and sinister picture that we are proud to be a part of. It's another unique horror movie which we believe will appeal to audiences around the world.''
