Critics have hailed Janet Leigh's chilling shower scene in classic film PSYCHO the "best movie death" of all time.

The 1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller beat other iconic movies like THE GODFATHER and Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs in the poll by Britain's TOTAL FILM magazine.

The surreal ending of Stanley Kubrick's 1964 movie DR STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB - when Slim Pickens rides an atomic bomb which detonates - came second, with the ape's fatal plunge to earth in 1933's KING Kong landing third place.

Alan Rickman's fall from a 30-storey building in action favourite Die Hard came fourth, followed by the killing of the title characters in BONNIE AND CLYDE.

Total Film's SIMON CROOK says, "Some of the deaths in the poll, like THE WICKED WITCH melting in The Wizard of Oz, are iconic but laughable, but nearly 45 years on, Psycho's shower scene is still distressing."
